It shows you how to get started. Cut the tapajita to the peak along each fold. Then fold the mask over the visor and cover the cut ends with a self-adhesive base layer. Roof valleys channel a lot of water, so they need additional protection.
Start by installing a self-adhesive base on the platform. This process is much easier with two people. Cut the subfloor to size (or in sections for long valleys) and remove the entire plastic backing. With a person at each end, fold the subfloor onto itself, with the adhesive side facing out.
Then put it in the valley and unfold it. Try to push it into the fold of the valley as hard as possible. If this self-adhesive base layer for ice and water joins both sides of the platform and leaves a space in the lower part, it could break once you install the metal valley cover. Pass the subfloor beyond the dripping edge on the eaves and trim the excess with a multi-purpose knife.
Once it's smooth, nail it with nails to the outer edges. The initial row protects the roof by filling in the spaces below the cutouts and joints of the next row (first plate) of tiles. You can deploy long sections at a time if you have a sloped roof, but the subfloor can slide down the eaves on steeper roofs, so don't spread more than 10 feet. If word gets out that you own roof guns, you run the risk that a lot of friends and neighbors will recruit you to help you work on their roofs.
Once you have obtained a permit (if necessary) and have safely cleaned the roof, clean the edge by dripping your nails along the eaves. The entire length of the fascia is probably not perfectly straight, so don't draw a line; simply hold the drip edge tight against the fascia and fix it at the top on the platform with roofing nails. The slope of the roof and the wind conditions in the area also influence how many nails should be used and in what location. However, don't have the shingles delivered to the roof if you still have two layers of old shingles to tear off, as it could be too much weight for your frames.
Once all the shingles are installed, you'll need to cover (cover) the ridge (and the ridges at the hip if you have a gable roof). Use four roofing nails per tile, as indicated in the package instructions (six nails in windy areas). Install the next row of tiles on top of the first step, then cover that row with a tiered cover, and so on. Felt paper, also called tar paper or construction paper, helps remove water that enters under shingles, protects asphalt shingles from wood roof resins, increases roof fire resistance, and helps keep the house dry if it rains while working. It is impossible to properly install a new cover and subfloor if the old roof is not torn off beforehand.
